Every year we wonder where we are going to end up for the 4th of July. On the lake? At a friends house for a backyard bash? At a theme park braving the crowds? We always find something entertaining to do, but this year it was new. My mom and dad decided that they wanted to host a big bash at their house in Tehachapi and invite all of their friends to celebrate. When my mom told me that she wanted me to do an invitation I of course said yes. (Apparently this is my new skill!)
Of course I nearly fainted when I heard that they were hiring a Karaoke/DJ because I thought to myself.....huh I have never, in 25 years, heard my dad sing! This should be interesting. They invited all of their neighbors and of course their friends from high school. I have known these people my entire life, they are like second parents to me.....well except maybe Adam. He's like a brother....that you want to return! :-P He knows I love him! They all packed up their trailers and headed into my parents backyard. I mean it looked like a KOA camping site! Pretty hilarious!
On Sunday morning, us ladies all got up to start the setup while the guys went and played golf. Darin hung back to do the heavy lifting and entertain Tanner his new buddy. They did boy things, like catch bugs and play football. We put together Poke cakes, and hung all the decor. By the time 4PM rolled around I was officially pooped, but I took a shower to revitalize and was once again able to rejoin the party. We drank margarita's galore, Darin and I both sang a TON of country music, and watched all their friends just have fun, drink and sing! It was the talk of the town, because most of our singing could be heard for miles bouncing off the hillsides!
It was a perfect 4th of July. We reminisced old memories, I heard new stories of my parents that I hadn't heard. Did you know they were young and stupid once too? Gee! I feel closer to them and think that it is so wonderful that I, and Darin, have this great adult relationship with my family and their friends! Looking forward to next year!
