10 years, 8 movies....HP has come to an end!

Note: I know I am a month too late for this but I still felt the need to share my thoughts

On July 17th I made a date to go with one of my oldest and dearest friends to see the final Harry Potter movie. Since my husband is not a fan of the series I figured it was my best bet to be able to see it opening weekend, and of course he was the one who introduced me to these movies 10 years ago. So in an attempt to remember all the things that I might have missed, over the two weeks beforehand I re-watched every single movie again. The hubbs was not too happy, but I got to grow up with the characters and get re-invested in their lives before the series came to an end. (Note: I have not read the books)

Spoiler Alert! If you haven't seen the movies, particularly the last one, please don't read on. Unless however you don't care.

In re-watching the movies, I fell in love with a new character. Neville Longbottom was the underdog and played a very small part in the first couple of films, but then turned out to be a warm heartfelt character that I grew to understand and love. He shared a past with Harry that no one else did and he truly understood what Harry was going through. Hermoine switched from being a know-it-all pain, to a truly like able character. Especially when she falls in love with Ron, who was my favorite throughout the entire series! (Go redheads!) Sweet and kind, he would do anything for his friends, even in the darkest moments. I got re-invested in Dumbledore (after the original actor died, and they changed directors I didn't really care for him) and after his death truly felt sorry and heartbroken. Of course I had to re-hate Snape. However once Part 2 came out, my opinions changed for some of the characters.

Lets start with Harry. He turned into the "It's all about me" character and it really turned me off. Like "I AM the CHOSEN one" Great we get it kid, but you never would have made it anywhere without the help of all the characters. Hermoine and Ron's love made me just want to cry. It was so cute and I am glad that quirky Ron was able to come into his own and stand up. Neville, well he just turned into one of my favorite characters! My favorite's were Minerva McGonagall and the way she took a stand to protect all the students, and of course when she let the giants loose! I giggle with that. I have loved every character that Maggie Smith has ever played. And of course when Ron's mom Molly calls Bellatrix a bitch! I full on belly laughed and realized that these are no longer little kid movies!

My opinions changed for two characters drastically, Dumbledore and Severus. As I am sure they did for many people. We all thought that Albus was on Harry's side and just wanted to watch over him, but we find that he has been grooming him and waiting for the exact moment for Voldemort to kill him (he does have reason's for this though, I do understand) but I felt completely betrayed! Then there is Severus, his love for Harry's mother and he felt the need to watch over Harry and protect him! I never saw that coming! It made me realize that his character, above ALL the rest, was the best character in the movies! It doesn't hurt that he was played by Alan Rickman. (best quote from a movie ever, "Why a spoon?" "Because it's dull it'll hurt more!" from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves) He suited that character to a T! All in all I think that they wrapped everything up nicely. I didn't feel like anything was left out, or questions unanswered. Yes I am sad that the series came to an end, but like they say, all good things do.

Side note: I know that it was in the books, but the very end of the movie was far too cheesy for me. I know that it leaves us open to sequels and I think that what is done should be left alone. But that's one person's opinion! I recommend seeing the movie, and the entire series! I will probably buy the box set! Or ask for it for Christmas!
