A Milestone is Approaching

So young! He's so tan and I'm white!
Coming up on the 26th, the hubbs and I will celebrate 10 years of being together. 10 years since we started dating. To me it seems like yesterday, but while looking through photo's and reminiscing about the past I have realized that a lot has changed in our lives. The one thing that hasn't changed is our love for one another. Over the next 2 weeks I will try and describe my personal favorite memories from the last 10 years. On the 26th, I will post a special post as well.  Let's start it all off with how we met and our first date.

We have a mutual friend, Mr. L. The hubbs has known him since kindergarten and I met him when he came to my high school our senior year. He was really close with D until high school when they went to different schools. Then when Mr. L came to my school we became the best of friends. To this day we both consider Mr. L to be the closest and longest friend that we have ever had. We may not see each other that often, but when we do it seems like we picked up from 2001! One day I was over at Mr. L's parents house. We had decided to go to Joann's Fabric's to get some supplies for a project that we were working on. While there we ran into the hubb's mother, my future M.I.L. I had forgotten that I had met her and my B.I.L. previously at a Halloween party in 2001 (but that's another story). While talking to her Mr. L told her to have D call him to hang out. We said our goodbyes and went back to his house. Around 2 hours later, Mr. L receives a phone call and I hear, "Yea, come on by." I assumed that it was the same person and that he would be on his way. While sitting at the dining room table, rhinestoning a costume for Mr. L's sister I heard a knock at the door. "Could you answer that?" I hear Mr. L shout from the other room. So I went to the door and when D saw me answer the door, his face was confused then it lit up a little. I introduced myself as a friend and directed him towards the family room to play video games, and then went back to work on my project. About 10 minutes passed and D wandered back to the dining room and sat in a chair next to me. He and I chatted nonchalantly all the while I was curious as to why he was sitting watching me do something to tedious and non masculine instead of playing a shoot-em up game with his friend. Shortly after he stated that he had to leave to go to work and went to say goodbye to Mr. L. After he left, Mr. L came and asked me if I was interested. I said that I was so he passed me along D's phone number. Later in the day, I called to see if D wanted to go see a movie sometime, while leaving the voice message something happened so I didn't know if the message saved, so I called again to leave another one. Apparently both messages saved, and Mr. L had called D twice as well. D must have thought that we were nutty.

When I got a return call from D he seemed excited to go out. We made plans for me to meet at his house after my shift was over at Disneyland. I arrived at his home around 10PM dressed in a blue sun dress, the same one in the photo above. D's dad answered the door and called for him. D's bro peaked his head around the corner to see who was there, and the D came out. We had decided to see The Count of Monte Cristo. We bought our tickets and something to snack on and settled into our seats. Honestly I don't really remember the movie because I was so nervous. I was sitting with my hand in my lap. Every once in a while D's hand would nudge mine. After the third or fourth time I realized he wanted to hold my hand (awe so after school special!). I moved it and he placed his on mine. After that I noticed his body relax. Once the movie ended, he drove me back to his house. We sat in his car for over 2 hours and just talked. Around 3AM we called it a night. He walked me to my car and gave me a hug, no kiss. He was such a gentleman and later on he told me that he never kissed on the first date. It was a memorable evening and since then we still have those times where we just sit and talk for hours. That is what started our story. Stayed tuned for our first vacation, Lake Tahoe!
