When Darin and I got married my mom and I had this idea with my garter's. You always have one that you keep and one that gets thrown into a screaming, rowdy, crowd of drunk men. Always a good time. I thought to myself what do they do with those? Do they keep them? If they do, do they remember which wedding they caught it at? So we came up with this idea to make sure that the person who caught the garter would remember which wedding it was at. We took little charms; a ballerina slipper for me and a horse (to look like the Mustang emblem) for Darin and sewed them onto the toss garter. That way, instead of having a generic garter they would have a solid idea of which wedding it was received at. Darin's brother caught it at our wedding, after wrestling it away from another friend.
So I had a thought to make this idea a tradition. Darin's sister is getting married in three weeks and I was at a loss for a shower gift. My mother-in-law told me that she didn't have her garter's yet because she didn't know what she wanted. Perfect! Considering all of the gift are pretty much going to be used by the fiance (chef) I wanted to get her something special. I found some pretty lingerie and a couple of understated garters. Then I went to a local bead store and found some charms. A oyster shell with a pearl inside for Cailee and a chef spoon and fork for Peyton. I took some white thread and sewed them to the plain garter. Voila! Instant customized garter. :-)
