Fright Fest

For most people Halloween is a holiday where you either A: have children and dress them up in silly costumes and take them around your neighborhood to get candy from your neighbors, or B: dress up in costumes that either make you look like you belong in a haunted house or an adult magazine, go to parties just to get drunk and act like a teenager. Well since the age of twelve I have been too old for option A and now that I am in my later twenties it seems like I am too old for option B as well. I don't really care to have the out of control feeling of too much alcohol and I do not like to act like most do on this holiday. So what's a girl to do?

When our friends Mr & Mrs. B asked us if we wanted to go to the local theme parks Halloween event, I was slightly less than thrilled. Reason being I hate Halloween and roller coasters. I am terrified of heights and do not like to lose my stomach so the idea of falling from many many feet in the air is not my idea of a good time. But since the hubbs loves that sort of thing we decided that it would be good to go. Mrs. B doesn't really care for roller coasters either so at least I would have someone to talk to. We met up with Mr. and Mrs. R and once the entire group got situated and we ate we started making our way around the park. Like most theme parks, they had employees dressed up with fake blood and prosthetics trying to scare people. Of course they were doing a good job with some of the teenagers who would scream at the top of their lungs and run away, which of course made the characters follow just to get a rise out of them. But when they would come up to use, we would just say things like "Hey how are ya?" or "What's up?" Not exactly the reaction they were looking for. We poked around in a couple of mazes, which were fun. I am the type that expects something to jump out of every corner so I didn't really get scared, except for the one time I let my guard down. I was staring at this "statue" thinking, ok that's fake. Then I turned away to keep walking, of course the hubbs who was right next to me decided to walk ahead a little. When he did the statue jumped at me and made me scream so loud. It was funny. I went on a couple of baby rides, and everyone else went on a couple of big rides including the wooden coaster that was running backwards. Although we were standing by the funnel cake stand forever and I wanted one desperately, I never got one. I guess that's a good thing though, can't ruin the diet on one pastry. Even though I had been skeptical of the whole evening I did have fun. I am glad that we at least did something in relation to Halloween this year.

Gutter Balls

A couple weeks back a friend of ours celebrated his birthday. While on his actual birthday the hubbs and I were busy preparing for another dear friends wedding, he was off gallivanting in Palm Springs. We made plans with him to take him out after to celebrate. I had recently learned that there was a Buffalo Wild Wings in Burbank, not too far from where we live and decided that it was the perfect spot to take him. I mean who doesn't like chicken wings, french fries and beer? Certainly nobody in my group. We called up some other friends and asked us to meet there at 8, while we went and picked up the B-day boy. While the whole evening wasn't let on to him, I did ask him whether or not he would want to go bowling or to a karaoke bar. He of course chose bowling. Either was both places were right around the corner. We piled into the car and made our way to Burbank, the whole time the guest of honor was trying to guess where we were going. Once we pulled off the freeway I told him "Well we are on a budget so we are taking you to Ikea for a $1.50 hot dog!" Hehe. After driving around for 15 minutes trying to find parking, we finally made it to the restaurant. Underestimating the popularity of this hot spot we did not call ahead for a table and promptly were told an hour wait. So we all waited outside, people watched and was even hassled by a comedy club promoter looking to sell us tickets for that nights show.

Once we finally got inside and got a table, we had to peruse the menu for all the yummy flavors that we would desire. We settled on Honey BBQ, Medium, Chipotle BBQ and Parmesan Garlic (for the birthday boy and I to indulge in....it tasted like fettuchini Alfredo on a chicken wing. Perfection.) We also had a basket of fries and the boys ordered adult beverages....I was the D.D. so I didn't partake. We filled out bellies with food, and enjoyed each others company and relived our high school days, as the music selection was dated just a bit. We had disputes over the lyrics to Eiffle 65 and "When I Grow Up" by the Pussycat Dolls....thank you to azlyrics.com for clearing that one up.

Once we completed our meal, we parted ways with the other couple and made our way to Pickwick bowling just around the corner. Apparently they have changed their policy now that you have to leave one of your personal shoes as collateral when you rent shoes. Like I am going to want to steal something that thousands of other people have worn. Um NO! Anyways, once we got our lane and shoes we proceeded to begin our games. The hubbs had gotten a cold so he wasn't up to his best game. However he can attest to me being a decent bowler, not excellent, but decent. So when the first game rolled around and I goose egged on the first 3 frames I was slightly irritated. I took focus on my swings, and with a little coaching was able to get my game slightly back. However I still lost that first game. Round two came and things were looking better. Not only did I pick up 4 spares in a row, but I beat the boys! By 30 points! They will say that they let me win, but I think otherwise. I mean c'mon....30 points is a lot of letting. I know that there is a re-match in my future, but until then I have the printed score sheet on my fridge! MUAHAHAHA.
All in all it was a nice Friday night out with great friends and good food! Happy Birthday Mr. P!

Snip, Snip, Snip

For most people, the thought of even getting a trim on their lovely locks sends shivers down their spine. For me, its a sense of something new and exciting. A way to change just enough so that you don't feel so boring all the time. I have been wanting a change for a long time, despite my husbands plea's to leave my long locks I decided that a shoulder length do would do. Especially since I would be donating any cut hair, 10" minimum to locks of love. If you don't know what Locks of Love is, it is a non-profit organization that takes donated hair and sews it into wigs for children with cancer. It's a wonderful charity and I am glad to donate to help children in need. Anything having to do with cancer tugs at my heart strings anyways.

So my journey began back in May when I was researching what kinds of styles I would like. I picked a couple and decided to compromise and go for a longer, at the shoulder look. I arrived on Wednesday to see my stylist and good friend Jana. I sat down in the chair and said "Your salon donates right?" She looked at me with a panic in her eye and said "your really cutting it all off?" Yup I have been determined to make a change and that day was it. She took the rubber bands and sectioned off my hair, took the ruler and measured 10" of hair and promtly went snip, snip, snip. I had a mini coronary inside my head because it's hard to see that much hair gone, and it was a little shorter than I had anticipated it would be. However I knew that it would be worth it in the long run. We had discussed the possiblity of putting in some highlights to brigthen up my hair and I made the decision to color, for the first time ever, my virgin hair. She sat me down, mixed up the color and foiled me up. As I sat under the dryer I thought to myself, what an interesting change this will be. She pulled me out, washed my hair and proceeded to shape my new do. Once completed she dried and styled my hair, teased it up and hairsprayed me! I looked like a new women and I felt great! It will take a bit to get used to it, but all in all I am happy with my choice! YAY!

Summer in October

I always want it to start being fall as soon as October hits. But as we all know, summer in California never ends until early November. Last week we had a couple of cold days, but as it always does the temperature heated back up by mid week and the hubbs and I decided that we needed a lake day. He called up his brother and our friend and set up a time for us to meet up, hook everything up and launch the boat. I made a picnic basket of goodies and we puttered around the lake until we found a spot to anchor, lounge for a bit and eat. Once everyone was ready to go we went and found the perfect spot for wake boarding. The hubbs and I attempted to wakeboard again unsuccessfully. Next season we will get up! I am determined to get this down. It was a great relaxing day and we were able to get our last tan of the season! After-wards we had some dinner, went into the hot-tub and watched a movie. It was the perfect Saturday. I love spontaneous adventures! Enjoy the photos! :-)

A Special Gift

This summer was a crazy one as far as crafting goes. With all the details that I made for my dear friends bridal shower as well as the beach bag. I couldn't stop there. My mom and I went to town looking into a pattern and fabric for a quilt for the wedding. We found some perfect material and each went ahead and did each of our blocks separately. Then my mom shipped it off to my Aunt back east to be quilted and returned looking beautiful. A special gift for a special couple. I hope they enjoy it always.

Another Eagle has landed

There has become a new tradition in our family. Accomplishing the rank of Eagle Scout. My uncle did it when he was a teenager, as did his two boys, my cousin's Anthony and Matthew. The newest addition to this is my cousin Mitchell. My aunt had been working on his court of honor for a year and last month we finally celebrated his special achievement. The family came from all over and we had the presentation of Eagle Scout, a slideshow (provided by yours truly) and then and wonderful lunch. The hubbs was the official photographer of the day and he did a great job. We are so proud of him and all that he can and will accomplish in the future!

GTL and T-Shirt Time

Ok so I have been MIA again in the blogging world.....why? Because I got sucked into The Jersey Shore. Yes yes, I know. Why? Well I watched one episode out of curiosity and guess what. It's like a car crash that you just cannot look away from. Much like my obsession had been with The Hills, I had to watch every previous episode so I knew what I was watching. Gasp, dare I say it....I loved it. So much better than The Hills. Sure sure you have your obligatory girly drama (Ron and Sam) who do nothing but fight and the make up with each other. But you also have the mix of guy humor in there as well. Not to mention the abundance of acronyms. So here is an abbreviated version of the shows characters:

DJ Pauly D: The fun loving, yet crazy DJ who likes to party and pick up girls with his boys Mike and Vinny (the coined the acronym M.V.P. to describe going out) With his signature blowout and TONS of hair gel and tats, he seems to have no issue getting the girls. Even though most are "Grenades" (definition: Ugly Girl)

Mike "The Situation": We all know this guy, but he is basically the S&!T stirrer in the house. Where ever there is drama lurking, Mike seems to find a way to blow it into a giant fight, which of course we all love to watch. He also is the cook of the house and the all-time KING of grenade finders. Had a thing for Sammy Sweetheart first season, yet now they hate each other.....much more info than that, but too much for blogging.

Vinny: (My favorite character) Vinny is sweet, and caring. Always there for the roommates, and just a good guy. Won't take just any girl home, and has high "standards." According to him. Well that whole Snooki thing still has me a little bothered but that's neither here nor there. I have watched him grow into a confident character over the seasons.

Ronnie: The guy we love to hate and feel sorry for. His up and down relationship with Sam is what we all tune in for. Their constant bickering is something that we all just want to see to make us feel better about our boring daily lives. Other than a brief stint in Miami, I really don't know anything about this character outside his relationship problems.

These guys have coined 3 terms:

GTL which stands for Gym, Tanning and Laundry....because you can't get chicks if your not fit so you must go to the gym. You can't get chicks if your white so you must tan either real, tanning bed, or spray tan. And you can't get chicks if your clothes look bad, so you must wash and make sure that the clothes look good.

T-Shirt Time: Which is why the guys are constanlty seen in wife beaters because the wait until this specific time to actually get dressed so that they look perfect when they go to the clubs.

F.P.C - Fistpump Pushup Chapstick.....more on this below.

Jenni "JWOWW": Jenni is the chick that you don't want to mess with in the house (except that Sammy does) and she is most famous for her huge tatas and the outfits she puts on them. I think those babies have seen more sun than my face! Hehe. She loves her girls and will do anything for them.

Sammy "The Sweetest B!$&H You'll ever Meet": Her relationship with Ron is what we tune in for, but frankly this chick is annoying!!!!! Despite everything Ron has done and what she has done to him, they still find it necessary to keep getting back together.....way to keep the ratings M.T.V.

Nicole "Snooki":  She is the crazy party girl that love to drink and "Smush" (have sex). We have seen time and time again her "Cooka" (vagina) and she is just the type that you love to watch just to see what she is going to do next. Her on and off relationships with boyfriends and Vinny are ratings gold because we just want to see who the next hookup is with.

Angelina "The C&*K Block": She can also be described as the female version of Mike. Likes to cause unnessecary drama just to see what happens.  She is no longer a part of the show.

Deena "The guys girl": Deena coined herself a "Blast in a Glass" season 3, and she for sure is a girl who likes to party. Likes to drink, and fall over. A LOT! She's not "easy" but will makeout with just about anyone.....including Snooki.

There you have it. A brief description of all the characters. We all know that M.T.V. is at the top of the reality t.v. show list for drama and we love to tune in just to see what they have in store for us. Can't wait until Thursday. Here is my favorite scene and the coined phrase F.P.C.
